T.I.G.E.R. Books
A T.I.G.E.R. Book is one of the main
connections that you will have with me this school year. It is also
a great tool for teaching organization and responsibility to your
child. It is a 3-ring binder with a folder, sheet protectors, and a
divider inside. For the first several weeks of school, I will help
the children determine what papers go where. Because they may not be
able to read the labels, I have included clipart on each section
label. They will learn to associate the picture with what kind of
papers go in that part of the book. I will describe each section
below.
The inside pocket is where I will put any homework
assignments that your child has. Later in the year when I begin to
send a book pouch home, it will go in this pocket.
The Tiger Pouch is where you will put any lunch
money or notes from home. This keeps important things from getting
lost, and it is easy for children to see through the pouch window to
see if they have anything to give to the teacher.
The folder inside the binder has two
important sections: Return to School and Leave at Home. I will
put any forms that need to be signed and returned to school
(such as field trip permission slips or missed work) in the
Return to School pocket. All of your child's checked work,
newsletters, and other notes from school go home in the Leave at
Home pocket.

The last section of the T.I.G.E.R. Book is
for Parent/Teacher Communication. In the divider pocket, your
child will have a behavior calendar. The children earn a sticker
on their calendars each day for being a good citizen. Behind the
divider will be blank notebook paper for you to use if you need
to write me a note. (Please tear the page out and put the note
in the Tiger Pouch, though, so your child will see it the next
morning.
